Are they still an active company or should they be moved to the Provider grave yard?
Credit Card info requested by them
These people want your creditcard info from you just in case. Read below
Your credit card info must be entered for the following reasons:
Whether you are a Customer registering for service, or a Technician registering to be a Service Provider, it is necessary to have a valid credit card on file.
Chargebacks (Service Providers)
Overpayments (Service Providers)
Credit Cards Are No Longer Required
As it now states on the site, we are in the process of removing the credit card requirement. The updates should be implemented as of July 15, 2008. We originally required the credit cards because we pay the techs immediately upon completion of the work through PayPal, and have no way of reversing the payment if we accidently pay the wrong tech. Fortunately, it’s never happened, so we decided that the risks are very minimal that it will happen. Therefore, no more credit cards.
Geeks-In-Route
You have Rent-A-Geek being owned by James Whitten. Rent -a- Geek says Keith Schiehl is the Team Leader & Founder.
We were Rent A Geek
There are at least 100 Rent A Geeks in the US that are all independently owned. Keith Scheil bought the trademark from the original owner in Maryland, who was no longer doing business, and was not enforcing the trademark. When Keith Scheil purchased the trademark, he started sending everyone nasty emails, and threatening to sue them. As there are so many other independent Rent A Geeks, and we aspired to go nationwide, it did not seem much worth it to fight with them, so we changed our name, and trademarked it.
