Someone just called
Shaun Harris:
Someone just called and said yea I dropped my computer and the screen is cracked, but the weird part is the computer comes on.
I said $$$ diagnostic charge
He said what!!! $$$ just to look at it.
RoboGeek:
I don't charge for diagnostics. Once its in the shop I almost always get the repair or a new PC out of them
Parrish:
We charge for a diagnostic- but that fee is applied to the repair if they choose to have it repaired. They only pay the diagnostic if they don't do the repair.
RoboGeek:
how much you charge? I can diagnose most issues in a few minutes if not seconds of turning the PC on so the most I think I'd be able to charge is a half hr. Not that I would - that free diagnostic thing brings in a lot of customers

Our diagnostic fee is a half hour labor. Not all machines are software issues- many machines we have to spend a considerable amount of time diagnosing which hardware component has failed. Most of the time the diagnostic fee doesn't even come close to how much time we have in the diagnosis (especially on laptops). But we have to get something. Probabably 10 to 15% of the machines that come in end up being diagnosis only because the customer doesn't want to pay to get it fixed.
