Its taking 30-45 seconds to load pages and for posts to go. Some hang and need the page refreshed. wazzup wit dat?
-
It's working OK for me.
-
I've noticed that it seems to take a while for things to load than I would like. What really seems to lag is making new posts.. takes a few seconds at least. What kind of old robogeek computer are you running this thing on? :p

It's one of the downfalls of shared servers. Some hosting companies oversell because most people don't need a lot of bandwidth, CPU time or HD space, and then when demand picks up the server can't handle the load.

Couldn't we migrate over to a dedicated server at the same hosting company? What's the price difference Rick?

A dedicated server is expensive. The cheapest at my hosting company is $175 per month. They do have VPS servers starting at $20 per month, which is a step in between.

I would love to have a premium setup for the site. Unfortunately, it requires an expense I cannot currently justify or afford for the ROI. The web site would need to bring in some serious revenue for me to afford it. Advertising and co-op is obviously the only choice, since charging membership is out of the question.
As it is it costs money to host FF now, but the podcast has generated enough revenue to cover some of our current hosting expenses.
I will be bringing more advertising into the site but I need to be extremely careful how I do this so as not to upset the balance of the community. We are still growing and when the time and circumstances are right, a migration to more a more robust infrastructure will happen. We just need to be patient and make the most of the resources currently available to us until that time.
-
In the meantime, your hosting company may move some accounts to another server if you complain enough.
Do you have CPanel, Rick? If so check the processor usage and see what it says. If it is constantly high, let support know.

I used to joke about that when I lived in Phila. If my friend and I saw a hot chick, we would say hey lets kidnap her and dig a hole under the basement, blah, blah. Then one day they arrested Gary Heidnik, who did EXACTLY what we had joked about (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_M._Heidnik) and it didn't seem funny any more. There was some discussion that he was eating the parts he was cooking on the stove, but I don't know if it was ever proven.

Thanks Farmer for ruining my sleep tonight reading about that sick motherfer... hope he burns in hell

The real story was incredible, way more involved that the Wiki article. His house, including the roof had piles of trash 4 feet deep all through it. There were bodies buried in the trash, took weeks to find them all.

He had been feeding meat from the deceased to the others but they didn't connect the dots till certain facts came out in trial. Heidnick is nowhere near the worst serial killer. Richard Speck in the mid 60's hacked up 8 student nurses that shared a flat but one (#9) slid under a bed and watched it all, too paralyzed from the shock. She was still there till early morning when police, one of them my old man, opened the building to investigate complaints of a person yelling out the windows, called in by neighbors. That rotten POS stayed alive till 91 when he died of a heart attack. Sick SOB did stuff I won't even mention and I had seen some of the evidence photos that my dad had in his briefcase but forgot he left it open. At 10 the BW photos looked more like watching the old Night of the Living Dead movie but later when I saw them again at 17 it clicked with me the sick nasty things a human can do to another. Evil is not some horned being in a firey place under the ground, it exists between the ears of the person that inflicts it.
That other POS Charles Manson is still breathing and eating food we pay for and continues to seek parole. I think they should let him have it and let the public know a month in advance when and where they will release him. He won't last 5 mins on the outside.

Serials are, to me, the most interesting of people.
I spent 6 years talking with Robert Hansen about his 17+ kills.

The web host still has random issues with the server hosting this site. They can't seem to figure out what the problem is. It's like the forums start to slow down then will become unavailable for about 3 minutes or so. Then they come back like nothing ever happened. Rick is aware of it but his host is still scratching their heads. To me it sounds like a server with a memory leak and eventually it reboots- but what do I know.

MMM... maybe someone is trying to reach out and control whats being said on here also >:D

The last few weeks have been incredibly busy for me- two of my larger clients are doing server/software migrations. I have one almost done (the big software migration) and tomorrow I have to finish up the server swap for my other client.
All that's on top of all the normal work. Unfortunately it's just my partner and I now. My godson was here this week- normally he would have come back to work for us full time starting this week. But he's now on his way to Los Alamos for the summer. Then, as soon as he gets back to Tech in the fall, he's going to work for Ford.
Soo... now I gotta figure out what I'm going to do.
I need to make some trips around to different parts of the country and try to decide if I want to stay where I am now or relocate/start over somewhere else.

considering how painfully slow it's been today, i'm guessing the logs should be full enough to help narrow down that leak
