They just figured that out?

(CNN) -- If you're using a fake name on your Facebook account, maintaining a personal profile for your beloved pet or have a second profile you use just for logging in to other sites, you have one of the 83.09 million fake accounts Facebook wants to disable.

Some time ago I remember this thing going around on facebook of how when they die they want someone to take their facebook password, get into their account and change it to "Is dead" but keep it live. Its amazing the things that have came and gone on facebook.

That is a problem in of it's self.  I know of several accounts for dead people on FB and LinkedIn.  In many cases they are simply abandoned because no one knows or cares how to contact FB and get it removed.   In other cases a spouse may have access to the account but can't bring themselves to pull the plug so to speak on the account.  People even still post to it knowing full well the person is dead.     Either that or the afterlife has a great Wifi hotspot.....

Facebook was supposedly putting policies in place for "memorial accounts" at one point.

There are a few (that I know of) Youtube accounts still active that belong to dead people, no one managing many of them but they continue to collect monies for ads. "svengalie" (Steve Love) was one that took his life in Feb over some divorce battle but I see now his parents have been able to gain access to his account and posted a video last month. There are others on Youtube that have passed for various reasons and their accounts are active and ad monies flowing through but I can't remember the user names at present.

I knew a local girl in her early 30's that passed away from some strange genetic disease or problem and her husband couldn't get into her FB account so I messaged him and got their address and came over and we cranked up her laptop, did the forgot password on FB and got a new PW. He was able to close her account from that. He's a relative of a friend of mine so I did it totally for coffee while I was there.

I was doing it to help them out but they kept bugging me so I told them coffee was payment. At the price of coffee it could almost be used as legal tender.
