Happy Thanksgiving 2013!

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

It is easy to get caught up in the daily distractions, routines, struggles and trials of everyday life and forget about the blessings and fortunes, however small, we do have. Looking back on the troubles around the world this past year alone, I realize just how much I really have to be thankful for, and that I should never take it for granted, because it could all be lost or taken away at any time and for any reason.

I realize that life itself is a fragile gift that could end at any moment. I am grateful for each day and the opportunity to live it. I am thankful for a loving wife, great and wonderfully talented kids, family, good friends, my health, two working arms, legs, ears and eyes, a coherent mind, a job that I love, a roof over my head, food to eat, reliable transportation, the opportunity to be born in a country full of opportunity that has been given enormous blessings, a lot of good memories, and the ability to see, hear, smell, touch and otherwise experience it all.

The world is a dark and dangerous place, and there is much pain and suffering in it. Whatever tribulations I have encountered in my life pales in comparison to the tribulations many, many others have endured on this planet. What petty grievances or complaints I have are trivial. Compared to the plight of those who are truly suffering, I have absolutely nothing to whine or complain about.

As a people, as a nation, as individuals who live in a country where we can still strive to be whatever we want to be, we have so much to be thankful for, that one day of the year is hardly enough to acknowledge it. Each and every day should be a day of Thanksgiving, so that we never forget, for one moment, just how blessed we truly are.

Backatcha Rick. First Thanksgiving here since my folks passed. My GF had the Dinner last weekend because her Mom was going out of town but I had other commitments. Today I'm just hanging with my brother and my daughter, knocking back a few cold ones, may make a pizza later.....the Holiday is what you make of it.
