Fog imaging questions

I've been playing with Fog imaging server (fogproject.org)

its an open-source imaging solution that can make images of machines over the network.

My goal is to use it to make an image of a server. I'd like to then take that image and boot it in VirtualBox.

I have the Fog server running, it found my test workstation and made an image.

VirtualBox doesn't like the image format.

Has anyone else worked with FOG before?

Ok, with lots of RTFM and research, it works!

Here is what I did:

Pitfalls I fell into:

Fog v. 32 didn't work for this. I had to go back to v. 29. Until I found that out, I was struggling with permission and path issues.

The flavor of Ubuntu that worked for me was 10.04 LTS. Newest was wonky.

Various tweaks needed in Virtualbox. (Make the disk IDE, allocate the space, static the MAC, use bridged mode, make sure it will PXE boot)

I had to disconnect my router from my FOG server and client. They talk using PXE DHCP, and my router does DHCP. I could have fixed via settings on the router, but didn't want to.

My test was from an old Dell laptop with XP Pro.
