The Android OS...

This seems to be as good a place as any to put this...
Do any of you guys know of a good online resource for the Android OS? I'm dealing with it on my phone, and on a tablet, and while I can deal with some of it just fine, there are a few other aspects of it that are still puzzling to me.
Searching on it gives me lots of links for apps, etc. but what I'm looking for is something that covers the OS itself, and so far I'm not having much luck.

Lifehacker has some good articles about getting to know Android. Pretty much, with Android and IOS both, I played with it until I ran into something I wanted to do but couldn't figure out, and googled that. You'll want to get to know the Google apps that ship with the phone and maybe the OEM apps thah come with the device, but for everything else, and even a lot of what you do with those apps, you'll probably find another app you like better.

Install the SDK and play with some tutorials? I think I saw some good info in the Ubuntu forums.

Well, those links were some interesting reading, though some of it was a little dated and some didn't apply to me being only for specific phones...
I'm having a new difficulty here -- not sure what I did. For some reason, the phone is not connecting via wifi. I can connect directly to my local server here, no problem, but I can't get into the google play store any more, it just sits there and spins its wheels until it times out. Which would seem to indicate a nameserver issue? But there doesn't appear to be any /etc/resolv.conf, and I'm not sure where else to look for the problem, some setting I messed with that I shouldn't have?
Regarding apps, I snagged bubble and wifi analyzer early on (on the table, too). I haven't got this thing rooted (yet?) and am not sure what I'd benefit from doing that, though Brian's mention of being able to do a complete backup and restore sounds pretty good.
Poking around in the ES File Manager (another one I got early on) I can see a lot of "stuff" that I don't normaly see, but this isn't exactly linux, only kinda sorta, I guess.
Oh yeah, and if there's some way to get rid of a bunch of the crapware that comes with it, that'd be neat, too.
It's a Samsung Galaxy III, and the carrier is AT&T -- not the choice for some of you guys I notice, but they give me coverage in places where other folks don't, my last phone was Straight Talk which was set up for the Verizon network and it didn't work at all in places I needed it to. So far so good with this one...

Is the wifi issue just with your Wifi? can you connect to any other wifi and use google play? is your wifi at home set to only N or mixed mode?
